Sofiero Palace or just Sofiero (Swedish: ’Sofiero slott’ or just ’Sofiero’) in Helsingborg Municipality, Scania was one of the Swedish royal family’s country mansions, located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) north of Helsingborg. It was originally a Scanian farm called Skabelycke, bought in 1864 by Prince Oscar of Sweden and his wife Sophia of Nassau.[1] The first one-story palace was completed in 1865. It was expanded to its current size between 1874 and 1876, after Prince Oscar had been crowned King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway.History[edit]
In 1905, Oscar II’s grandson Prince Gustaf Adolf, future King Gustaf VI Adolf, and his wife, crown princess Margaret received the palace as a wedding gift. They renovated the palace and started the large Rhododendron garden for which the palace is known today. Prince Gustaf Adolf become king in 1950 and until 1973 Sofiero was his and his second wife Lady Louise Mountbatten’s official summer residence. It was supposedly the King’s favorite place and upon his death, which occurred in Helsingborg, he left Sofiero to the city of Helsingborg so that the general public could enjoy it as much as he had.Today[edit]
A bus connection leaves several times an hour during peak hours from Helsingborg. The main attraction today is the very large gardens with a wide range of local (and other) plant life, stretching to the shore of Oresund. The Rhododendrons are especially noteworthy, consisting of almost 500 different varieties.[2] The park also holds a small collection of modern art.
During the summer the large grass areas are sometimes used for large outdoor concerts with national as well as international stars such as Bob Dylan, Bryan Adams, James Brown and Norah Jones. Fun slots bfdi.

Universal’s 4K scan gives Casino a gorgeous new visual coat. Cinematography aims for vintage flair, meaning blooming and haze. With the added horsepower afforded to UHD, that’s held in check sans artifacts or noise. Source grain appears organic, flawlessly clear in maintaining the source’s integrity. But it only makes sense that when MGM did finally try this franchise on UHD discs, it would be in its newest incarnation. 007: The Daniel Craig Collection includes four films—Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and SPECTRE—in both Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD in one set. After the success of Goodfellas in the early part of the decade, director Martin Scorsese and writer Nicholas Pileggi chose to team up once again in another tale of organized crime. With Scorsese’s filmmaking vision brought to a wider scale thanks to his efforts on Cape Fear and The Age of Innocence, the sites were set for Las Vegas and two of the main principles (Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci) from Goodfellas costarring again in a tale of the luck of the draw, the rise and fall and the glitz and glamour that is Casino.
Meet Ace Rothstein (Robert DeNiro), he’s one of the best handicappers when it comes to sports betting, a fact that draws the attention to some people in the world of organized crime. Out in Vegas, the bunch from Chicago has gotten a hold of the Teamsters pension fund and with a great amount of money look to venture their business into the casino world of Las Vegas, running The Tangiers. How Ace fits is that they need someone to run the place legitimately. At the same time, one of the boys back home named Nicky Santuro (Joe Pesci) is keeping a sharp eye for the boys into this venture. Along the way Ace meets a hustling pretty gal named Ginger (Sharon Stone) that will be there for him during the good times and the bad but literally could also be the death of him.
Upon first viewing, this viewer didn’t know what to make of it in 1996 (when the film came out on video), and the result was a little less satisfying than most of Scorsese’s work. However, in the years since then it took a friend’s wild request of Joe Pesci movies to view the film amongst friends. It was through this film that one element about Martin Scorsese’s films was imminent. His films are so much better the second time around and more and upon second viewing, this viewer noticed one of the most visually striking films of any decade along with a great capture of the period as well as a solid three hours of film (started with a great title sequence by Elaine and Saul Bass (A LEGEND!!)) that go by as each element is presented during the ongoing operations of the casino.
The film has gangster elements in the film but if one were to nail a genre for this piece, one would consider a docudrama with elements in between of interaction. The narration from both views (Nicky’s and Ace’s) carry the film very well in its backgrounded moments.
Scorsese and Pileggi develop a tale that leads to little holes in the operation to an unexpected triangle between his wife and his guardian. One of the things I love about the film is the way Scorsese plays with the structure as well as playing with location and time titles in different points of speed and movement.
It also leads to some great trademarks of Scorsese, the crazy camera close up, the great selection of period music as well as a number of long takes one being almost 6 minutes into the picture showing “the holiest of holies” in Vegas. I also like the term “boys back home” to refer to the shady characters that were skimming off the casino.
As for the cast, the film is well cast all around. As Ace Rothstein, Robert DeNiro gives a great performance of a man who gives into luck when he doesn’t believe in it and pays the price in the long run as well as having a high level of trust with things he cares for the most, even the slightest of things (like chips or blueberries in a muffin).
Joe Pesci brings a fierce menace to Nicky Santuro as a man different from Tommy in Goodfellas in that their dangerous element is similar, but the difference being that Nicky is already a made guy and one that crosses the line too far when the time comes (as Tommy never got to that point). It also is worth noting of Pesci’s other co-star in both Goodfellas and Raging Bull, Frank Vincent as he plays Nicky’s associate that gives a moment that saves the best for last for Frank in the run of those 2 movies.
In the film’s sole nomination (there should’ve been more), Sharon Stone plays Ginger, a gal with the line on all the side people at the casino but with a line on the man in charge and a line of coke at the same time. She plays a gal that no matter how much love Ace gives to her, she sees herself still attached to her slimeball ex-boyfriend (played brilliantly by James Woods).
Another interesting element of the film is the many comics that fill serious roles amongst the films. All of them (Don Rickles, Alan King, Kevin Pollak, Dick Smothers and a cameo by Steve Allen) this viewer is sure has played Vegas at one point or another and to bring their presence non-comedically into the flow of Scorsese’s film is most welcomed and they do extremely well in their supporting parts.
Through all the good moments, Casino never feels overlong and follows in the long tradition of films made in Vegas as a thing of beauty visually (thanks to cinematographer Robert Richardson) and in all aspects is a film like many of Scorsese’s worth going back to if you haven’t and worth appreciating if it’s been your umpteenth time. Casino is a winner all around, bet, place and show.Video: How’s it look?
Casino has been a favorite of mine since I first saw it many moons ago. I’ve owned several copies of it across various formats, but felt that the visuals were never quite up to par. Even the Blu-Ray left a lot to be desired. It was passable, but the flaws were just too evident for me to not notice. When I heard that this film was going to receive the 4K treatment, I was more than a little optimistic. Well the short of this is that the film looks absolutely amazing. This disc offers a clear improvement over previous versions. The HDR10 presentation leaves nothing to be desired as the details are heightened and evident from the opening moments. The film has plenty to offer in terms of visuals, and there wasn’t a moment that I felt the transfer was lacking. The ratio is a wide 2.35:1 ensuring that we can take it all in. The film has never looked this good and will probably never be better than this. This is an easy recommendation for fans of the film.Audio: How’s it sound?
The DTS:X track is also impressive. There’s so much to this film that the vocals are front and center, but there’s plenty of action and background noise. The excellent soundtrack also shines through nicely in the background throughout several scenes, enhancing its presence just as needed. The dialogue never gets lost in the mix. In short, this is a strong track from start to finish.Supplements: What are the extras?
The 4K disc only includes the Moments commentary with cast and crew. The rest of the supplements are carried over onto the Blu-ray disc.
*Moments with Martin Scorsese, Sharon Stone, Nicholas Pileggi and More – This is essentially an audio commentary even though it’s just segments of conversations about the film. It’s very worthwhile, but a standard commentary across the film would’ve been most welcome.
*Deleted Scenes – Some little throwaway moments that were wisely cut, but still fun to see.
*Vegas and the Mob – A lengthy Television special which gives a nice overview of the true story that inspired the film
*History Alive: True Crime Authors: Casino with Nicholas Pileggi – This gives us a nice behind the scenes look at the man who wrote the books that inspired Casino and Goodfellas.
*U-Control – A bit dated now, this is essentially picture-in-picture segments that let us access behind the scenes footage as we watch the film.The Bottom Line
Not only is Casino one of my favorite Martin Scorsese films, it’s also one of my all-time favorite films. It’s easily one of the breeziest 3 hour films ever made. The 4K release improves on all old releases big time in terms of visuals and audio. In short, it’s a must own. The features, while carried over are still good. I do wish some new supplements were produced, but that wasn’t meant to be. This set comes highly recommended.MOVIE INFO.

‘Plot structure’ refers to the patterns the events of a story form. Some cite Aristotle as one of the first writers to codify story structure. He wrote in his Poetics(though in specific reference to tragedy) that every story should have a beginning, middle and end – our most basic ideas of structure.
In addition to beginnings, middles and ends, stories have repetition and development. The same way musical themes and melodies return in sonata form (a type of structure common in classical music), sometimes the same and sometimes altered.
This is ‘plot structure’ at its most rudimentary or basic. It applies to novels and short stories alike. Here are plot structure examples that give us more concrete insights:1. Using repetition and variation: ‘The Three Little Pigs’
Repetition is a fundamental building block of story structure. We find it across the spectrum of storytelling, from religious texts to children’s fables and mythologies (from the Three Wise Men to the Three Little Pigs).
In Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh (1945), the first part of the story shows the protagonist Charles Ryder visiting the stately Brideshead Castle in Wiltshire, after he befriends a man at college whose family owns the estate. At the end of the novel Ryder visits the manor again, but it is now crumbling and damaged after the war.
The story’s middle developments and complex character relationships are thus book-ended by visits to Brideshead. The mirrored event shows (to poignant effect) how time and conflict reshape our world and ourselves. Repetition with variation helps to underscore the contrast between pre-war grandeur and post-war decay.
To return to a simpler, well-known plot structure example showing the power of repetition, let’s discuss the children’s story ‘The Three Little Pigs’. It shows the creative power of repetition to create expectation, suspense and surprise: Structured suspense: Repetition and expectation in ‘The Three Little Pigs’
In the story, three little pigs’ mothers send them out into the world to seek their fortune. One builds a house of straw, one a house of sticks, and the third a house of bricks.
A wolf, the villain, wants to eat the pigs. He blows down the straw house first and devours the first pig. He blows down the stick house second and devours the second pig. But the sturdiest brick house stands and the third pig outwits the wolf. He tricks him into coming down the chimney and catches him in a cauldron.
The simple three-part structure of the story varies the setting each time. Each time, it’s a different pig’s house, made of different materials. This small change, the varied element of the repetition, keeps us guessing how events will pan out.
The wolf winning the first two times also creates the expectation that he will keep triumphing. It places additional pressure on the third encounter – the stakes are higher because it’s the last pig. We see how a simple repetition, the ‘bad guy’ winning multiple times in a row, amplifies suspense.

Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are epic Ancient Greek poems that tell the story of the Trojan War.
To greatly simplify the plot structure of The Odyssey, while Odysseus is away on the battlefield, suitors to his wife Penelope, presuming him dead, lay siege to his homestead. They badger Penelope to remarry one of them. This subplot makes Odysseus’s return home more urgent. His 20-year-old son, Telemachus, sets out seeking news of his father.
There are many episodes and incidents along the way that delay Odysseus’ eventual return. These subplots extend the story’s structure, turning what could have been a simply journey homewards into a perilous, suspenseful quest. By the time Odysseus returns, he has aged and is barely recognizable.
As the plot structure infographic above shows, episodic subplots involving various secondary characters, from Gods to enchantresses, help to delay a key event that will resolve Penelope’s dilemma – Odysseus’s return. These episodic ‘interruptions’ to that core character arc thus sustain suspense. 3. Get creative with plot structure: David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas
There’s no reason why your story’s plot structure has to be either simple or episodic in a linear way, of course.
David Mitchell’s genre-bending novel Cloud Atlas (2004) uses a complex circular mirror structure.
Each section’s plot-line is left partially unresolved until a middle section, after which the prior plot-lines are resolved in reverse order.
This way, we begin and end with the same character, a Pacific adventurer named Adam Ewing, with his story given as journal entries.
Blogger Al Brooke created this illustrative diagram of the plot structure in Cloud Atlas. The arrows from each section’s name show which later chapters resolve which earlier plot-lines:
Mitchell’s creative story structure is a stroke of brilliance for several reasons:
*Each storyline, from the journals of Adam Ewing to the investigative thriller ‘Half-Lives: The First Luisa Rey Mystery’ has a delayed resolution that leaves us in sustained, intriguing suspense

The structure thus creates a sense of circular time. It mimics the circular patterns of rise and fall, development and destruction, that make up the history of civilizations and nations4. Shift time and perspective: Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse
The modernist author Virginia Woolf’s subtle meditation on family and loss has an interesting, three-part structure with a surprising shift of perspective and time-frame in the middle.
In Part 1, ‘The Window’, we see the Ramsay family at their vacation home in the Hebrides, on the Isle of Skye. There’s a lot of fuss about whether or not they will visit a lighthouse. In the middle section, ‘Time Passes’, Woolf changes to an omniscient viewpoint. The section spans the beginning and end of the First World War. The reader learns about various deaths in the family, including Mrs Ramsay’s. Sometimes the viewpoint becomes Mrs McNab’s, the family’s housekeeper.
The change in viewpoint and speeding up of time, and the focus on death, creates a sense of loss and absence in the middle section. Woolf captures the losses and absences of war through the symbol of the empty house.

According to pollster Frank Luntz, New York is likely to lose a seat in Congress after the 2020 census and Democrats in the state legislature will have to redraw the state’s Congressional districts as a result. Although there are plenty of places to cut, New York Dems are reportedly eyeing Ocasio-Cortez’s Bronx district for elimination because she’s been out of sync with state-level Democrats who control the process.
’New York is expected to lose a House seat after the 2020 Census, and state Democrats are looking to draw out @AOC’s district,’ Luntz wrote on Twitter. He included a link to an article from a local New York City magazine, The City, that suggested the Ocasio-Cortez is doubling down on her efforts to encourage her constituents to fill out the 2020 census so that she can stay in office.
The report goes on to note that the machinations of New York’s state legislators skew against Ocasio-Cortez’s spot, given that she doesn’t get along with them. There’s also the matter of some of New York’s other Democrats within the machinery having it in for her, given that she ousted a longtime machine pol, Joe Crowley, who probably dished out many favors to them.
But the real message is in the hard fact that New York is losing people, and that loss is firmly rooted in Ocasio-Cortez’s animating philosophy: socialism. Socialism the world over drives people to flight. This is as true in New York as it is in Venezuela, China, Russia, North Korea, and Cuba.
And Ocasio-Cortez herself was directly responsible for some of the drive-out, based on her halting of a highly sought Amazon operation in her district. Amazon explicitly stated that Ocasio-Cortez’s statements are what made the company change its mind and go someplace less hostile to business. She also drove out other investors, ridiculously claiming that their jobs weren’t good enough, not ’dignified jobs,’ as if to say that no jobs is better than jobs she claims to be underpaid or unimportant. Residents in her district have commented on that drive-out, and they weren’t happy. And Amazon was just one of them. There were many others.
When jobs go, so do people, so guess what: Ocasio-Cortez might just be out on her ear. Democracy has this way of leavening things out — more of the good stuff, less of the bad. With a declining population base, the seats go. Ly shop mma. The Daily Wire already noted that Ocasio-Cortez has been banking on her district’s abundant illegals to make up the difference, but even that may not save her. Illegals flee socialism for the same reason citizens and legal residents, too: the lack of economic growth. Amazon has since made moves to return to New York, raising questions as to whether it heard that Ocasio-Cortez’s seat is about to become history.

“Just like last time when gun­men came peo­ple were scam­per­ing out of max­is and taxis and it is just hor­ri­ble so we need to work on a de­ter­rent which is the cam­eras as an im­me­di­ate res­o­lu­tion. Mean­while, we will re­quest a meet­ing with the po­lice and wait on them for it to hap­pen,” he added.
In Diego Mar­tin, casi­no own­er Lu­cius John, 35, was shot by ban­dits who en­tered his es­tab­lish­ment - LA’s Amuse­ment Club around 7.15 pm.
John who was sit­ting fac­ing a door saw the ban­dits ap­proach­ing and was able to ward two of his fam­i­ly mem­bers be­fore he was shot.
Af­ter John was shot, po­lice said, the ban­dits ran away.
Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that John had on­ly opened up his casi­no two weeks ago and had plans in de­vel­op­ing it big­ger.
In the night’s third mur­der, at 7.30 pm Mick­el Di­az, 35, was shot and killed in front of his home in Tu­na­puna. Rel­a­tives told po­lice that short­ly be­fore the killing they heard Di­az ex­chang­ing words with some­one while in the yard.
They said they heard a se­ries of gun­shots and when they checked they saw Di­az ly­ing on the ground bleed­ing from mul­ti­ple gun­shot wounds. Di­az died on the scene, po­lice said.
There was al­so a shoot­ing in­ci­dent in Ari­ma around 8.30 am when a man from Ma­tu­ri­ta Ex­ten­sion, who was lim­ing near a shop at Hill­top Dri­ve, Ma­tu­ri­ta Ex­ten­sion, Ari­ma, was ap­proached by two armed men. Po­lice said the vic­tim was shot 14 times about his body but sur­vived.
The vic­tim was tak­en to the Ari­ma Dis­trict Hos­pi­tal where he was treat­ed and ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion.

Police were investigating a 61-year-old man’s death following a reported altercation over the weekend at an Akron home.

Police said an altercation was reported at the home between the man and a 50-year-old woman. The woman is accused of interfering with officers and paramedics several times during the medical emergency.
She was detained and taken to the police station. She was later charged and taken to Summit County Jail, police said.
Police identified the woman as Wendi Clark, 50, of Akron. She was charged with obstructing official business and domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony. Court records indicate she also lived in the 200 block of East Lods Street.
The circumstances around the man’s death were under investigation. Police said additional charges were pending.
The man’s name had not been released.

They are the remains of a steep staircase of seven locks on the Ohio & Erie Canal that permitted canal boats to ascend 70 feet in less than half a mile to reach the Akron Summit—the highest point in on a canal more than three hundred miles long.
